The 2015/2016 special legislative session officially closed yesterday (March 10), starting the 90-day clock for implementation of bills passed during the special session. As a result, we now know that California’s End of Life Option Act (ABx2 15) will go into effect on June 9, 2016.
To help answer the many questions patients and healthcare providers have about what ABx2 15 means in California, the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California created an End of Life Option Act resource page.
This page contains:
- Answers to the most frequently asked questions about ABx2 15
- Links to educational opportunities for healthcare professionals on having conversations with patients and families about serious illness and end of life
- Links to resources developed by the California Medical Association, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM), the National POLST Paradigm, and UC Hastings College of the Law
We will be updating this resource as additional information becomes available.
