Thomas McNalley, MD, MA

Thomas "Tom" McNalley is a pediatric palliative care and rehabilitation physician and professor of Pediatrics at UCSF, where he cares for children with serious illness at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Uniquely dual-trained in physical medicine and rehabilitation as well as hospice and palliative medicine, he is known for integrating functional rehabilitation with symptom-focused, family-centered care to enhance quality of life.

Dr. McNalley also serves as medical director of George Mark Children’s House, one of the nation’s first pediatric palliative care homes, and collaborates closely with By the Bay Health to advance community-based pediatric palliative services. His academic and clinical work emphasizes resilience, interdisciplinary care, and bridging hospital and home-based models. A respected educator and mentor, he is deeply committed to compassionate, holistic care that supports both children and their families across the continuum of serious illness.
