SESSION DESCRIPTION
In this session, Dr. Diane Meier will trace the origins of modern palliative care in the United States and describe the current status of the field through the lens of variations in access by care setting, patient populations, geography, and workforce capacity. She will discuss threats to the future sustainability of this new specialty and identification of key priority actions necessary to strengthen it.
