Online Topics Module - POLST and Legally Recognized Decision Makers/Surrogates
This registration option is for the POLST and Legally Recognized Decision Makers/Surrogates Topic Module only. It is not for the FULL Online Topics Modules series or the FULL Certificate Program.
Each of the modules in the Online Topics Modules series cover key components of the POLST process, purpose, form, validity, content, signatures, and legal requirements. All the modules were offered live to start, but are now available for on-demand access. Each module is 30 minutes, including didactic content and a real-world case study by a POLST expert. An additional 15-minute Q&A was included in the live presentation and summarized in a handout for the ondemand versions.
There is no continuing education available for individual modules.

In this module, we discusswho qualifies as a legally recognized decision maker for POLST; what are the limits of their authority; when they can sign the POLST; and when they care revise or override someone else's POLST.

OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Determine which persons qualify as legally recognized decision makers for POLST
- Express the statutory and ethical responsibilities of surrogate decision makers
- Evaluate whether a surrogate’s actions with respect to POLST are within the authority of a legally recognized decision maker
