SESSION DESCRIPTION
This session reframes medical decision-making for unrepresented SNF and ICF residents under HSC 1418.8. It focuses on medical treatment decisions covered by the statute and the required facility processes when a resident has no surrogate decision-maker. Participants will examine how interdisciplinary teams apply statutory requirements and safeguards to support resident-centered decision-making. Attendees will learn how to integrate eligibility criteria and required steps into facility workflows to support clear, repeatable practices.
OBJECTIVES
- Identify the eligibility criteria and required procedural steps under HSC 1418.8 for unrepresented residents in SNFs and ICFs.
- Apply a statute-based interdisciplinary decision-making process to a case scenario involving an unrepresented resident.
