SESSION DESCRIPTION
This session re-frames medical decision-making for unrepresented SNF and ICF residents using the requirements per HSC 1418.8. In the context of high psychotropic use in nursing homes, participants, will examine how structured safeguards per statute, the efficacy of using an interdisciplinary team approach is explored in support of whole-person decision-making. Through case discussion, attendees will learn how to integrate eligibility criteria and process steps into facility workflows to support ethical and duplicable care practices.
OBJECTIVES
- Identify the eligibility criteria and required procedural steps under HSC 1418.8 for unrepresented residents in SNFs and ICFs.
- Apply a statute-based interdisciplinary decision-making process to a case scenario involving an unrepresented resident.
- Evaluate how legislative mandates can influence organizational culture and reduce default reliance on pharmacological interventions.
